Denise Dunn earned her bachelor’s degree in Food and Nutrition at the University of North Carolina of Greensboro. She completed her master’s degree in food and nutritional sciences from North Carolina A&T State University in 2001 and then entered her dietetic internship at Utah State University. Ms. Dunn become a Registered/Licensed Dietitian in May of 2003. Ms. Dunn has worked in child nutrition, public health, long term care, bariatrics and food service management. I am the founder and CEO of Dunn with Dieting LLC, a nutritional consultation company focused on teaching clients the true purpose of food, how to close the revolving door of temporary diets and how to create lifelong change.
The core of DUNN with DIETING is understanding the element of Control as it relates to food. As complex and puzzling as Nutrition may seem . . . it has only two faces; Control and Purpose. We Control the Food we eat, or the Food we eat controls us. We define the lifestyle we have based upon the food we eat or the food we eat defines the lifestyle we are forced into. As a Registered Dietitian, I have discovered that people eat for numerous reasons; happy, sad, boredom, excited, rejection, and loneliness. But none of those reasons address the true purpose of food, which is to fuel the body. There are hundreds of diet plans out there, I’ll be the first to acknowledge that fact. I will also be the first to say that they ALL work. However, the problem is consistency. The bombarded American consumer can easily drown in a sea of diets each promising that we can look like the model we see in their advertisements, and it will work in 24 hours with no exercise or for that matter no significant changes required. Unfortunately, fairy dust only exist in the movies. So we try it for 2 weeks and when it does not change us into the model in the advertisement, we quit and move on to the next new “miracle”. It seems that every day, a new quick fix is thrown at us. That is why, I truly believe God gave me the concept for DUNN with DIETING.
